MarkasXvoi

One of the key issues that emerged from the 2022 Employee Satisfaction Survey is the need to improve interaction and communication between Markas’ offices and contracted staff. This is why we launched MarkasXvoi (Markas for You): an initiative aimed at being closer to our staff who carry out their day-to-day work at our clients’ premises. In the framework of this initiative, Markas teams – composed of managers, employees and directors – visit our clients’ premises to get to know staff members and talk about issues related to the management of the employment relationship, health and safety, welfare and the latest company developments. In 2022, two days of meetings were organised in Trieste and three days in Rome, which saw the participation of more than 600 staff members.

Working in an inclusive way

Markas focuses on the employment of people with disabilities. During a workshop involving colleagues from Austria with and myAbility, a social enterprise, Markas developed a plan of goals and measures and continues to organise events in order to network with other companies engaged in this area.

The “Inclusive Working” project, promoted in Austria, aims to employ more people with disabilities in Markas, thus supporting their independence and autonomy. The goal is to create a work environment tailored to their needs and to enhance the employees’ strengths, allowing them to focus on their personal skills and abilities. The Markas Inclusion Officer is responsible for the strategic and long-term implementation of the project and is the internal and external point of contact. In 2022, the focus was also on raising awareness among facility managers specifically with regard to the relationship with people with disabilities. Internal communication through payroll inserts and Markas News has been increasingly used to inform employees about this initiative and to help create awareness in this area.

The issue of inclusion was also touched upon in the onboarding of new colleagues. Finally, to break down communication barriers, a sign language course was also promoted.

Markas Health and Markas Safety

Measures adopted as part of the “Markas Health” and “Markas Safety” projects aim to promote the health of employees and to ensure their safety.

In 2022, among others, Markas Health included a movement analysis that identifies incorrect stressors in daily work. In addition, a back fitness course was offered at the Markas Austria headquarters and the “moving break” initiative was introduced.

In internal communication, more attention was paid to informing employees about healthy eating.

As part of the Markas Safety project, an online platform was also created to disseminate content on occupational safety. Training courses on risk prevention were held in Salzburg and Tyrol. An information campaign on the topic of “Falls” has been launched. In addition, focus was also placed on body protection, offering training on workplace ergonomics.

Markas Lift: a lift for the future

Markas launched Markas Lift to give the children of all employees – and in particular those of operational staff – access to training programmes otherwise not easily accessible to them.

As the name “lift” implies, the project acts as a “lifting” mechanism for young people to gain access to the world of work, an accelerator of skills to better prepare them for their professional future. The initiative, which is held in Bolzano every two years and involves 16 children of Markas employees aged between 18 and 29, offers the opportunity to take part in a bootcamp dedicated to growth and the discovery of individual potential.

During the first edition held in September 2021, the participants spent a week in a facility surrounded by nature in the Bolzano area, the city where the company’s headquarters are located. The participants’ days were filled with indoor and outdoor training and workshops.

Company directors and managers participated in the project discussing the world of work with participants and sharing with them the dynamics behind a structured company like Markas, as well as introducing them to the main business processes, to be able to take advantage of the experience gained “from and in Markas”.

The project will be back for its second edition in 2023, giving other young individuals the opportunity to participate in this important initiative.
